*       Therapeutic Techniques

Shaw Psychotherapeutic Associates (SPA) is a team of Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists who provide assessment and intervention of young people presenting with various problems.  The resources which Plus One has purchased from SPA allows us to inform those who specialise in working with children and young people.  SPA founder, David Shaw, Dip SW, BA (Hons), PG Cert, PG Dip CBP, is currently a visiting lecturer at both the University of Derby, School of Psychotherapeutics, and University of Central England, School of Nursing and specialises in work with young people involved in the perpetration of sexual inappropriate behaviour.

Therapeutic intervention fits within our holistic approach to care and complements any young person’s Placement Plan.  We use SPA to work closely with the organisation to provide a comprehensive cognitive behavioural assessment and therapeutic intervention service.  They initially produce a complex report with recommendations for behaviour modification or therapy.

The overall goal of SPA is to set ambitious targets to contribute to improving the quality of life of young people.  This objective will be accomplished by the implementation of empirically tested intervention programmes aimed to increase the knowledge of young people by assisting them through the process of change.  SPA offers both short and long term therapeutic intervention to meet the needs of the individual.

An integral part of SPA philosophy is to work passionately and energetically to foster and maximise the potential that young people possess so that they can live harmoniously within today’s society.  The therapeutic care offered by SPA focuses on many difficulties that young people experience including:

*       Inappropriate Sexualised Behaviour

*       Racial/Cultural Identity

*       Challenging Behaviour

*       Fire setting Behaviour
