Supervision, Training and Development of
Employees
The staff teams
are regularly supervised within the Plus One cascade supervision and support
system. Within many sectors of
employment there are always those who find the work, style of teaching and or
practice easier than their contemporaries.
It is expected that different people from different professional, and
perhaps even personal, backgrounds will find some parts of the work
straightforward and others more difficult.
Therefore, a concerted effort will be made to ensure that each staff
member will be taught and developed at a pace they are comfortable with, in a
style that they are most receptive to and undergo clear, regular case
management and clinical supervision.
Plus One have purchased the services of Shaw Psychotherapeutic
Associates, who are Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapists, to provide clinical
supervision to the Practice Manager on a monthly basis. Clinical supervision sessions aim to
encourage the re-evaluation of practice and the decision-making processes to
enhance delivery of practice. This
method of practice is designed to actively develop competence. Plus One recognises that these are more
dynamic ways of learning and often assist in the consolidation of information
and make for a more interesting learning experience for our employees.
The Practice
Manager supervises the Registered Managers, whilst the Registered Managers have
the responsibility of supervising their care team. The Responsible Individual
holds weekly group supervision with all members of administration and
management. All staff are included in an
appraisal system to ensure the continuing professional development of all. All care staff have achieved, or are working
towards, an NVQ Level Three in Caring for Children and Young People and then
continue with NVQ Level Four.
Our care practice
is ultimately governed by the Children Act 1989 and Care Standards Act
2000. We ensure all care workers benefit
from a minimum of six paid training days each year. The teams have access to
the Plus One training programme provided by internal and external
facilitators. We employ an NVQ Assessor. Incorporated within this programme are
courses under the induction and core competencies as follows:
Child Protection
Physical Intervention and Positive
handling
Health and Safety
Basic Food Hygiene
Emergency First Aid
Fire Safety
Appropriate Adult
Managing Diversity
An
intermediate and advanced training programme is also available and presents
courses, for example:
Supervision Training
Child Development
Managing Challenging Behaviour
Children Who Abuse
NVQ Level Three
NVQ Level Four
Consistent,
progressive staff development and a commitment to life-long learning are valued
at Plus One.
